Muzammil Ali

Muzammil Ali is a PhD scholar within Project Halo, focusing on Mangrove Integrated Coastal Infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on floating mangrove pontoons. With a background in mechanical engineering, his research bridges ecological restoration and engineering innovation, exploring how technology can address pressing environmental challenges.

Muzammil’s work examines both the ecological performance of mangroves grown on pontoons and the engineering design aspects—including structural integrity, material selection, buoyancy, and stability. His innovative approach aims to develop floating systems that can support mangrove growth in areas where traditional restoration methods are limited by high wave energy and sea-level rise.

This research seeks to generate new knowledge in sustainable coastal protection and ecosystem restoration. By the end of his project, Muzammil plans to deploy floating mangrove pontoons across three locations in Fiji. He is passionate about collaborating with scientists, engineers, and environmental groups dedicated to restoring mangroves and protecting coastlines for a more resilient planet.
