Dr Brad Henderson is an expert in mangrove dynamics and coastal floodplain management. His 2024 PhD developed an innovative approach for predicting mangrove extent using lifecycle thresholds. Brad’s research focuses on how estuarine and coastal morphology influences these dynamics and predicts the possible types and extent of restored wetlands across coastal floodplains based on hydrological and ecological conditions.
With a background as a farmer, Brad brings a crucial real-world perspective to his work. His research investigates the impacts of restoration and sea-level rise on traditional agriculture, exploring the transition for coastal farmers to other productive measures, including blue carbon farming. His findings aim to help decision-makers optimise coastal floodplain use for both sustainable coastal ecosystems and agriculture.
