Dr. Rajesh Prasad



Dr Rajesh Prasad obtained his BSc, from the University of the South Pacific, MSc from the James Cook University and PhD from the University of Queensland. He specializes in Aquatic Science and Aquaculture. He holds the position of Fellow in Aquaculture at the University of the South Pacific and teaches all undergraduate and graduate aquaculture courses. He also supervises MSc students and PhD students. (Currently 9 MSc and 4 PhD).His research interests include aquaculture development in Fiji at community level, with the farming of mud crabs, freshwater prawns and fish species. Most recently, he has been involved in a partnership project with Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Fiji Ministry of Fisheries and the University of the South Pacific on “capacity building in Fiji to achieve SDG14 targets”. His work involved development of mud crab farming in communities. He is also collaborating with research scientists from France, Germany, and Australia in other areas of research including freshwater crustaceans, marine ‘sea grapes’, bivalves, etc.
